Seasonal Moods

"There is something frank and joyous and young in the open face of the country. It gives itself ungrudgingly to the moods of the season, holding nothing back." --Willa Cather

"Earth laughs in flowers."-- Emerson

There really is a mood to every season and today we happily say goodbye to single digit temperatures and dream of gardens and flowers and Spring greens!!

I hope you are doing the same!

Today we are:
staying warm
watching the ducks from the windows
enjoying soup

baking cookies
being goofy or sweet (depending on child!)

Frozen Surroundings

The garden is quiet and frozen these days; it has a white, clean, and glittery charm to it.  Pepper, Fern, and Radar (our ducks) are enjoying the water. Their favorite pool gets smaller every day, freezing over with the cold temperatures. Our chickens continue to lay many eggs for us. Even Radar, the white duck, lays an egg which I gather every morning.
There is a gentle stillness to our surroundings brought on from the cold temperatures and snow. Next month, we have winter aconite, crocuses, and snowdrops to look forward to!

I hope you enjoyed our frozen world.

Erin

Winter Skate

It has been a cold, snowy week here. The local schools were out all week but homeschool was still in full swing. Dance classes were cancelled for the girls, however Arabelle still had her piano lesson.  I am enjoying the quiet days of winter and the time at home.

Today was the perfect day to get out on our little pond. For the second time this season, we enjoyed iceskating, a bonfire, and hot chocolate. The kids got cold, so the party didn't last long, but we are hoping to go out again soon.

It has been a real winter here and we are enjoying it.
I hope you are enjoying your weekend!

Winter Gardening

It was another beautiful snowy day here with cold temperatures. I found some time this afternoon to practice my photography. This is our little sunroom where I keep my "treasures" and work on my green thumb. Most of the pots are Goodwill finds and the stack of vintage books were $1 at our local library. Arabelle and Emmylou have started a bird's nest collection, which I love. The shells we gathered on Assateague Island this summer.

Sometimes it really is the simple things. I must add, my dear husband brings me a cup of coffee every afternoon. He is a real treasure not available at the local library or Goodwill. :)

I found some simple joys in my day, and I hope you did as well.

Happy Gardening,
Erin
